Year 20 of T1D
Doing More (Things) with Less
Can you believe it’s already March? 2025 is my 20th year living with Diabetes and I made a promise to myself and my family that this would be the year that I embraced doing more with less. So far, that has looked like taking a brief break from recording new episodes of the podcast, planning a lot behind the scenes (like a new brand look for DDT) and digging deep into our partnerships for long term sustainability.
Part of that meant the successful formation of the Diabetes Legends Foundation, which is the new nonprofit structure for our Diabetes Legends Basketball clinics. This will allow us a way to get support from donors in the community, as well as apply for grants that will allow us to grow our impact in the US and around the globe. We even officially got a letter of support from USA Basketball, which was a huge win for us.
Taking a brief break from the podcast allowed me to create the space to get excited about interviews and conversations we haven’t had yet on Diabetics Doing Things. So I’m taking big swings and conjuring all the favor I can to bring you the best, never-before-interviewed guests. I also got to spend some time at the Diabetes Educators and Camping Association conference, spending time with some of your favorite camp and community organizations, as well as speaking at Mom’s Night Out in Cleveland Ohio. It was great to get to connect with people in the community, and I’m looking forward to continuing that throughout the year.
It has also helped me realize the gap in online events and programming for the diabetes community at large. There is immense value in in-person meetups and hangs, but the ability to gather for a quick hour on a livestream is something I want to bring back. So we are going to experiment with live events this year, the first of which we will announce later this month and plan to do in April around one of the most popular Diabetes topics: Diabetes & Exercise.
So take a look at some stuff we’ve been up to and what you can expect from us over the next few weeks. I hope the things you are doing with diabetes are bringing you joy, health and happiness.
See you soon,
Rob
