"I Don't Have T1D Anymore"
Dear ,
To celebrate my 20th Diaversary, I wanted to dig into the Cure. Many of us are promised at diagnosis that a cure is "5-10 years away" and the years keep coming without an update. I wanted to dig into what life is like for people who have had some sort of procedure to "cure" their diabetes. In our latest podcast episode, meet Sarah Camire, the first guest who no longer lives with Type 1 Diabetes thanks to a pioneering Simultaneous Pancreas and Kidney (SPK) transplant!
Diagnosed at age two and battling diabetes for 31 years, Sarah shares her transformation from managing brittle diabetes and hypo unawareness to living free post-transplant. She's sharing her journey on
and that's how we got introduced.
Sarah's journey isn’t a universal "cure," but it’s a beacon of hope for those with complex diabetes complications. Her story challenges the norm, urging awareness and resilience. And yes, she now enjoys gummy bears just for fun!
Have a great January, can't wait to update you on what's next for DDT
