Diabetics Doing Things:
The DripFebruary 2022
Happy February Everyone,
We observe Black History Month in February and I think it is important for us to remember that Black History is also Diabetic History.
Last year, we launched our More Than A Diabetic series to give a voice to Black leaders in the Diabetes Community in order to share stories that are true, inspiring and address the obstacles Black people with Diabetes face compared to the rest of the Diabetes population.
We have included links to Episode 1 of MTAD below but this post from community member Greta’s Type One sums it up quite well:
“You can’t be a diabetes advocate without including Black people.”
That’s it, full stop. So whether you are an independent creator starting on your next project, or work on a Diabetes team looking to put together patient perspectives, or are simply looking to connect with more people sharing their lived experience with Diabetes, be sure that the Black community is represented authentically in your work.
We are continuing our work at Diabetics Doing Things by working harder to ask better questions. I am personally taking time to do more research, read more perspectives and provide helpful, entertaining and useful information for people with Diabetes and I’m excited to unveil it to you very soon.
Send a friend with Diabetes some love today, you never know what someone may be going through and you have the power to make a difference.
Happy Black History Month,
Rob
