Diabetics Doing Things:

The DripMarch 2022

I wrote a list for myself in 2017, after listening to an early episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard where he mentioned having a list of steps he uses to help him maintain his sobriety. I made my list to help me with my depression. Just 5 simple questions to ask myself when I was feeling down, logical and straightforward, the way I speak to myself.

The last time I edited the list was 7/6/19 right before 9a, which makes me think I was listening to a podcast or reading tweets prior to work where I attempted to make a note for myself:

I heard “the body keeps the score” for the first time. And it resonated with me. I never read the book, but I understood the way my body was processing trauma because I felt it. After all, I’d been paying much closer attention to my body’s scoreboard over the years managing my Diabetes.

 It’s March 2022:

  • Ukraine is being invaded by Russia

  • Nearly 6 million people dead from COVID-19 in the past 2 years

  • 1 in 4 people with Diabetes in the US are rationing insulin

  • Horrific reports on climate change

So be sure to take care of yourself. I’m grateful that we both can draw breath today. I’m grateful for the resilience of people with Diabetes and their willingness to share their stories to improve the lives of those around them.

If 40,000 people in the US each year are Diagnosed with T1D, that means there are nearly 240,000 people who have been diagnosed with T1D since we started this podcast, and countless more living with T2D, LADA, MODY, Type 3c and others. All of us, if we were living at nearly any other time in history, would be dead. Thanks to Banting & Best, we are here today. What a gift! What a happy accident we all get to be alive together. We have so much to be grateful for and it’s important to remember that!So make sure you check the scoreboard with your body and acknowledge that you simply being alive is a miracle worth celebrating. I’m gonna celebrate by asking myself some great questions. Hope you enjoy this month’s content from Diabetics Doing Things, our best is yet to come. Rob
