2026 marks 10 years since I published the first podcast interviews of Diabetics Doing Things, and as it has grown and evolved I started noticing a pattern when guests, partners and listeners would submit questions or request topics:
Each of them was looking for my perspective on how to live well with diabetes.
At first I resisted the notion that I had all the answers, but I’ve come around to embracing it. Yes, I am living well with diabetes. I’ve told my story as a basketball player, entrepreneur and husband to thousands of people over the years. I wanted to become a role model for T1D and I became one - the responsibility that comes along with that is to break down how others can follow that blueprint, but also to tell the rest of the world how challenging it is to navigate life in 2026 with T1D.
So last November, I spent a lot of time thinking deeply about what it takes to live well with diabetes, and shared on my instagram about the 4 pillars: Physical, Mental, Financial and Social.
I think the content resonated because I reached more people in that month than I had in the previous 6. Defining all it takes and speaking about it unlocked something in me and allowed me to acknowledge all it takes for me to live well on a day to day basis.
In this newsletter and on the podcast in 2026, I’m going to continue this search. Each of our guests will fit within one of the 4 elements, and I will bring experts on Physical Well-Being, Mental Health, Finances and Socialization to help bring the tools and tactics from the experts to your podcast feed and email inbox.
I’m excited to share this journey with you and look forward to our first guests of the year after the conclusion of Doing Well with Diabetes Season 2.
Happy New Year!

T1D Women's Retreat in Costa Rica

Just as much as Type 1 diabetes demands you to be on, it equally needs you to pause and rest. This retreat is a love note to your cells, your nervous system, and your whole being. A few days to step off the mental treadmill... breathe, and let yourself be truly cared for.
Nestled along the golden coast of Playa Hermosa, this retreat blends oceanfront beauty with deep rest and renewal tucked in the jungle. You will enjoy REST, CONNECTION (with other T1D women who get it), and FUN (surfing, snorkeling, horseback riding in Costa Rica’s wild beauty). It’s a sacred pause to be nourished, loved on, and truly cared for.

Research Opportunity: EDGE from JAEB
JAEB is recruiting adults with T1D in the US for an exercise educational study where participants get a Garmin watch and they simply share their CGM and wearable data as part of the study. This is a great opportunity for people with T1D to participate in research!
