It’s been a while since I’ve written to you. I’ve thought about it a lot, but mostly I’ve been paralyzed by over-analysis to pick up the newsletter pen.
The good news is that things have been going well outside of the newsletter. Our Diabetes Legends Clinic at the Friends for Life Conference alongside our partners at MiniMed was a huge success. Over 100 campers came through the clinic in two hours, and I experienced two miracles in the building and storing of our clinic basketball hoops, but more on that another time.
The journey of living well with Diabetes on the Podcast has reached a sort of halfway point. The highs being our conversation with Neil Greathouse, the vinegar episode and the breathing episode. As we continue to dive into the world of living well with diabetes, prepare for a shift to the mental and financial from the physical and social in the second half of the year.
My wife and I also announced that we are adding a 3rd team member this winter, and we’re so excited to grow our family.
Diabetes Legends Dallas is this Saturday - sign your camper up here.
Diabetes Legends Denver is 9/12 - sign your camper up here.
I’ve also been learning to spin a basketball on my finger, and documenting it every day on my instagram.
Since I last wrote you, I’ve attended an incredible and transformative Diabetes Meditation Retreat, through the Diabetes Sangha community. I went into detail in this week’s solo pod, but I would recommend it to any adult with diabetes who practices meditation and is looking to deepen their practice. For those curious about meditation, I think getting connected to the Sangha (a strange name, but just means “group”) is an incredible first step. You really get to connect with other people with diabetes who are navigating their own ups and downs with diabetes and the feelings that come along with it.
I’m also participating in a clinical trial, my first, testing the latest MiniMed technology. All I can share with you now is that I would encourage you to participate in whatever studies you can, because I’ve learned a lot about my own diabetes management while having more voices and inputs involved in my care than I normally would.
If you’re new here, welcome. If you’re a longtime subscriber, thank you for being with me. I said it on this week’s pod, but when I started this podcast over 10 years ago I was focused on Diabetics and the Things we all do. But we are not human doings, we are human beings. As we continue this long search for inspiring people, experiences and connection with T1D, I’m continuing to expand what it means to be, instead of always doing. I’m filled with gratitude, joy and energy for what’s to come. I’ve released the attachment I’d held on to so tightly for so long. I feel like I’m learning who I am again, and accepting that who I am all along is worthy of love, appreciation and care.
I hope the same for you, wherever you are in your journey.
Until next time (which for many of you who follow me on IG may be tomorrow)
Rob
